Catch Up

Tuesday, December 14th, 2004

I have been rather lax at updating this blog recently (apart from the painting totals). Blame a combination of illness (which has dogged me all this year) and being too busy to sit down a write a coherent, focussed entry.

So, you’ll get some meanderings instead :-)

I attended Warfare on November 20/21 for the first time and really enjoyed the show. It was my first show as a trader and we launched the Black Hat Martian Empires range, which went down well. We had a couple of people who had come specifically to the show just to buy the figures, which was gratifying and shows that the press releases were read by some people! And we sold enough packs to more than cover the cost of the stand.

The show itself is well organised and has a very family friendly atmosphere with the entry fee being £4 for an individual or a family, which meant hat Sunday saw a fair number of families touring the dealer hall and meant that Ian at Fighting15s sold some sets of Teddy Bears!

All the other traders were friendly and I had a good chat with some new faces and caught up with a couple of faces from the long and distant past. It was my first time behind a trade stand since Games Day 1983, but we will be repeating the experience at a few more shows next year.

My only complaint would be the temperature in the dealer’s hall on the Saturday which was positively arctic and a lot of people were forced to leave their stands and walk round the hall just to stop themselves being frozen to the spot!

I am currently painting a lot of Black Hat Martians and British, with the aim to have the infantry done for next year’s demo game (scheduled for Valhalla) by Christmas. After the initial shock of changing to painting 15mm instead of the 28mm I have been painting all year, I’ve been very pleasantly surprised by how fast they paint.

Haven’t played a vast number of games over the last few weeks, but we did play a fun Rules With No Name Cowboy game last night with a very well laid out town using White Wash City buildings.

I have a large British vs Zulus game planned for next week using the Martian Empires rules as a play test and to introduce them to some others at the Guildford Club.
