I seem to have no time this month to do anything. I missed the game at the club last week, and with two bank holidays this month I’ll only have managed two games this month in total…
We did play through our Battles by GASLIGHT participation game for Valhalla 2003 though, at the club night on May 12th. Took longer than I expected, but we were pretty relaxed about it. The game seemed to play pretty well and there are only a couple of tweaks required.
The scenery looks good, provided by Dave Edwards, who also built a large Egyptian Temple for the game. And I mean large, I was expecting something about six inches square, this thing is 12 inches by eighteen inches! Still, it does serve a good purpose by blocking the lines of sight on the table, which is important in GASLIGHT.
The flying boat was finished in time as well. (I’ll post some pictures when I get a chance) and I think looks very smart.
The game provides each player with a Hero, one unit of infantry and a vehicle. This latter item could be anything from a steam tank to a flying boat or zeppelin, and the infantry ranges from egyptian regulars to jump pack infantry.
The major tweak to the game is to give each of the heros a satchel of dynamite so they can take on the vehicles, which will otherwise be fairly invulnerable to the infantry and other vehicles. This is because I decided to give the vehicles machine guns rather than artillery after seeing how effective artillery can be in a GASLIGHT game! I still remember losing 7 out of 10 figures in a unit to one artillery strike!
So, if you are coming to Valhalla in Farnborough on June 15th say hello to me at the Guildford Wargames stand…
I still have a load of basing to finish and some arab stalls to get done - looks like there’ll be a few late nights coming up…
